Free Social Prescribing event in London

The future of social prescribing workshop.

Some time ago, I wrote a post on social prescribing. Since then, I have ended up doing some research in this field. I am also helping to host a British Psychological Society sponsored workshop exploring ‘Challenges to Social Prescribing’. The London event will be taking place in November. If your are involved in the field, or just plain interested, I would love it if you could join us…. I am even giving a talk 🙂  Find out more below…

What is it all about?

This free workshop will bring together those involved with delivering and commissioning such services with academics and other stakeholders. We will explore the challenges facing social prescribing and ways these can be overcome (including bridging the gaps between the NHS and the voluntary sector). There will lots of networking opportunities and an interactive workshop aiming to identify solutions and viable ‘next steps’.

Speakers include Dr Rajive Mitra and Dr Daniel Frings (me! :-)) ). Dr Mitra is a GP at the Lambeth Walk Group Practice and also the locality lead for North Lambeth within the Lambeth Clinical Commissioning Group, where he has a particular interest in social prescribing. We are delighted to have Dr Mitra to join us to discuss challenges to social prescribing from a commissioning perspective. As you may know, I am an Associate Professor in Psychology, and Impact Director for the Division of Psychology at LSBU, and the Centre for Addictive Behaviour Studies. I’m super-excited to be discussing the ‘active ingredients’ of social connections, and the opportunities and challenges they present to social prescribing.

Where, when, and how….

The event will take place on November 9th at London South Bank University, at their Southwark (Elephant and Castle) campus, from 0930 to 1600. Catering and refreshments will be provided. To book your free place(s), please visit our eventbright page. Make sure you book early, as place are limited! These seminars are being organised by Nottingham Trent University, LSBU and University of Winchester. If you would like to know more about the series, please visit the workshop website. You can also contact the workshop organisers (me and vangelie@lsbu.ac.uk) with questions about the event.

I hope to see you there!

Dan
